I love it!

Ok, don't blast me for saying it but I've decided after nearly a year of
playing with Vista that I'm not going to hide the shame anymore and have to
say it loud and clear! I LOVE VISTA!

Why do I love it? Because I'm BORED with XP. Why I think people hate Vista?
Because of the low standards Microsoft set for "running" Vista...512mb
reminds me of running Windows 3.1 before people even knew what defraging was
and you'd been using it for 3 years. What were they thinking when they
allowed that? You CAN'T do anything on Vista with 512mb anything--except
your graphics card.

I could go on and on all night about this and that neat little thing and
that quirky little something that I just find so great about Vista but I
won't. But I will tell you the one thing I discovered that clinched the deal
for me LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION!

Location: The "documents, pictures, and music" folder links in the start
menu! Right click on one, hit properties, then hit LOCATION. A VERY handy
thing when you have a 2nd hard drive for those things and are tired of having
to redirect each and every little save to that drive and folder--and
occasionally losing the file to the wrong dang drive for a little while
because you were in a hurry.

What I HATE? UAC! Need I say more on that one? I also hate not being able
to change how email addys are displayed in an email. But that one stems a lot
from people who DON'T delete the extra crap that go on emails when you hit
forward and after 2 attached messages I just delete the email and move on to
another. But I miss being able to have addys list as "John Doe" instead of
"John doe <[email protected]>" yep, someone requested that, but they could
have let us have the option like we used to so NOT to do it. No, I don't want
the Windows Live mail, I hate IE add ons of any kind that slow me down.

And where the devil is a LEGIT link to email Microsoft with my
frustrations?!?!?!?!

Ok, I'm done... be gentle if you respond! lol

Welcome to Vista users.
98 & Xp made Microsoft understand that Security is the basis of a good and
stable operating system. I've seen loads of people having problems with
Vista and the majority of them because they simply are not interested in
understanding why things happen (a classic is deleting the dustbin icon!)
and want things to be right and stay right.
Just as for Xp people are having to go through problems with drivers and
oldish apps and of course it's hell for those who thought they could
continuing using their pirated apps.
So far I've loading Vista on 3 of my 4 Pc's and all are running perfectly,
stable and simply superior to Xp. I also do a lot of work on a Mac G5 Quad
and it's tough to see the difference when handling heavy graphics files or
basic day to day work. Like any operating system Vista has it's drawbacks,
limitations and teething problems but try and find any system that is
perfect from day one, Ubuntu?? CRAP!
People who continuing bitching about how crappy Vista is simply are not
ready to admit that the world wouldn't continue working without it and no
other system can give the same results, Xp was hell for them and Vista even
more!!

I also love Vista. Had a few minor problems, but got searching, which isn't
hard to do, and found the answers even within here, or google them. I had
vista since March of this year. Vista Home Premium works great!!

That is human nature. Most people also don't care how their car works,
they just want to get in, start it, and go. A car, as well as Vista is a
consumer product, and like any other consumer product, people expect it
to work out of the box.

Just as for Xp people are having to go through problems with drivers

The OS has nothing to do with running 'pirated apps' other than the
'pirated apps' ability to run on Vista or not.

The world has worked w/o Vista prior to it's release, so that comment is
lame.

What I HATE? UAC! Need I say more on that one?

I wonder why you are getting UAC prompts. I find they are very rare these
days, now that I've installed everything and got it all set up as I want it.

One thing to make UAC more tolerable: make your account an Administrator
(don't worry, it still runs as a normal user), and then tweak UAC so it
doesn't require your password.

That way you get a warning whenever something with security implications is
about to happen, but it just requires a single mouse click to dismiss it.

There is no significant loss of security.

I have been using computers for quite a while now and I must admit at
first vista seems very different from xp. It is because it is better.
You can do more with it,

Uh, yeah. Do more with it. What does that mean ? What 'more' can you do ?

DanS

As do many others, myself included. Just let me give you a heads up: On
this NG (and just about every other Vista NG out there), you're going to
get a lot of flak. It wouldn't surprise me at all if Frank, Alias or
Tiberius (or all three) try to get their 2 cents worth by saying how
dumb you are for loving Vista.

But I'm with you. Vista is awesome!

Are you confused ? Frank LOVES Vista.

Some are called dumb for loving Vista when it is blindly supported saying
it is the greatest OS ever and every part of it is fantastic and refuses to
acknowledge any 'issues' in it what-so-ever. These are the same people that
always blame the user for every problem. I don't need to list them, you've
read them all here.

The OP on the other hand, ended the post with a couple/few things that are
irritating and admitted that these are things they do not like.

You seem to be echoing pretty much what others have been saying about
Vista...
and that is (to paraphrase):

"Except for the portions of it that I hate...it's a really great operating
system."

I finally just disabled the uac... it's mostly things like CCleaner and
Auslogics Defrag that set it off. I guess it's the 3rd party stuff that uac
doesn't like... I wouldn't use them if MS's utilities did a decent enough job
for me.

I use TrendMicro security, and it honestly does a better and less annoying
job at those things. It asks me ONCE about a program--like Adobe putting
itself back into the startup menu after an update, TM remembers I don't want
it in the startup and blocks it every time. (once I tell it to remember the
action). THAT right there is more valuable to me than the uac. I shouldn't
have to fight to use a program I use more than once a week! Ok the defrag
not so often, but it's still annoying.

Putting words in my mouth dan'o? Point to any post where I've said "I
love Vista", ok?
I like Vista...it works for me personally and for my company. I love my
wife, my family, my country, etc., but I don't "love" any software.
But I do enjoy exposing and bashing the lyin linux loser trolls and
those who "hate" Vista and yet don't even have it or use it because they
either can't afford it or can't figure it out.

- I can find files faster than I can type the search criteria

So can anyone that uses any free third party search tool. I've installed
GoogleDesktop search, using it sparingly to find web pages I've visited,
that I didn't bookmark.
- I can run more applications at once because it has better memory
management

Hard to say if that's the case or not. Any PC with 2 gigs/RAM can run
more applications.
- I can keep my system running for longer with without requiring a
reboot

My XP goes months on end w/o re-booting.
- I can write CD and DVD without needing to turn off Media Player

Media Player ? Never use it. Why should you have to turn it off to burn a
CD ?
- My games and applications that performed well on XP are
blisteringly fast on Vista

This is completely subjective, and just loading faster because they are
cached w/superfetch does not count as running faster.
- I can manage my pictures and videos without requiring a thrid-party
application

W/o the free ones's that come with every scanner and digital camera you
buy.
- I can edit my videos and burn home movies without requiring a
third-party application

Like in XP ? What did you use before to edit and burn movies ?
- I can see who has ben using my computer, and what files and
internet sites they used
- I can stop people from stuffing up the system when they really not
allowed to (thanks to UAC, one of my favourite new features)
- System Restore actually works

I've never used system restore.
- Shadow Copies is an indespensible data recovery tool for when I
want to recover files that had been improperly changed or deleted

For files you have deleted ?
- I no longer need a third party web browser (in other words, I've
stopped using Firefox thanks to IE7)
- I can keep better track of installed Windows Updates
- I can find and remove malware without requiring a third-party
application

Isn't it best to just avoid malware ?
- Task Manager can tell me where a process is coming from

So can Process Explorer, which is also better, and can be set to replace
task manager.
Need I carry on, or are you going to pull the classic "I-hate-Vista"
routine and claim I'm delusional despite nearly a year of using Vista
without problems?

Nope, I'm not saying I hate Vista, I was trying to get a meaning of what
your meaning of 'doing more' is.

Well, I wouldn't say I love Vista... but I do like using it.

My biggest complaint with Vista is file copying. It's horrendous. Period.
One can only hope MS fixes that in SP1.

Yeah, the 512MB RAM minimum was unbelievable. I actually had a laptop with
512MB RAM running Vista Ultimate and it was stupifyingly slow. On the other
hand, I've run Vista on a couple of boxes with 1GB RAM and it ran fine. Even
Call of Duty 2 ran fine on one of them.

UAC's not a problem as far as I'm concerned. It hardly ever pops up these
days. I'd rather deal with the pop ups to benefit from the increased
security. Is it perfect security? Of course not... but every little bit
helps these days.
