$213 delivered, in sealed box, on eBay.

Now....I have a Leadtek ti4200 that I am going to take out.
Do I need to use any software to remove the nvidia drivers?

I am running Win2K PRO.

Thanks

DEFINITELY remove ALL software and drivers from NV.... and then
install the card with a 'repair' install of XP.

I also had a 4200 and you're really going to enjoy your card! Go to ATI's
site and get the "Chimp" and "Nature" demos. Crank up the AA to at lest 4x
and also set your Ansio to at lest 4x. Your gonna like what you see.
As for removing the drivers, I also was running 2000pro. Here's what I did.
Just use Add/Remove in control panel, reboot into safe mode, then do a
search for nv*.*. In my case nothing came up, but you might find some files.
Delete whatever you find.
If your concerned about your reg., just back it up and then do a reg search
for Nvidia. Remove whatever you find.
I had no problems at all installing and running my 9800Pro after I did all
that. I suggest you reinstall DX9 after you install the ATI drivers.
"Pipedream" is another mind blowing demo that you can find on ATI site.
I can tell you first hand that going from a 4200 to the 9800Pro is a major
improvement. You'll also discover right off that your 2D looks fantastic
also. My desktop looks shaper and has much better color saturation with my
new card. You're going to really be amazed when you see your favorite games
running with at lest 4x AA and not experiencing any change in frame rate!
It's really a trip after having a Nvidia cards forever and only dreaming
about what AA must be like! Get back to us and let us know what you think
after you have had time to play OK! Happy Gaming! JLC

That's not always a good idea if you've got an nforce board.
Also if the OP happens to be running Windows 2000 with memory settings
set for system cache, or large system cache, that can cause severe
problems with the new card.

I got my 9800 Pro a couple months ago, switching from a Ti4400. As others
have said, just removing the nVidia drivers in Add/Remove Programs should do
it. I set my 4400 OCing back to default then uninstalled my OC program. I
set a couple games (that have problems when drivers are switched) to use the
software drivers, then uninstalled my 4400 drivers. I'm also running W2K.
The difference in the 4400 and 9800 Pro will vary. I get about the same
frame rate in NR2003, but with the 9800 Pro, I can run it with 4xFSAA and
8xAF with no loss in frame rates. Very nice. You'll enjoy the card.

I must admit to being a bit curious though. I buy quite a bit of stuff off
eBay, but I check online store prices before I do. The 9800 Pro goes for
$210 at newegg.com. It's $219 if you want the box and a game with it. Maybe
yours has a super HSF and ramsinks on it?

Newegg ATI 9800 pro:
$232

Same as mine but you need to add tax and shipping which brings it to around
$250.

I think you were looking at the Sapphire version?

GTX_SlotCar

OK, that answers my question. You bought the eBay one because you wanted a
"Built by ATI" card. I don't blame you.

Just for your reference, Sapphire builds most of the "Built by ATI" cards.
The Sapphire 9800 Pro (bulk) that newegg is selling is also a 'built by ATI'
card. It has no Sapphire markings on it, says Built by ATI on it and has an
ATI part number. When sold to computer manufacturers, they are ATI cards.
When sold in bulk to etailers like newegg, they must state that they are
made by Sapphire so the driver disk says Sapphire on it.
FedEx shipping is free on most of the high end cards at newegg and there
should be no tax.

I was just curious, that's why I asked. Thanks for the reply. What's really
important is that you bought a good card at a good price. You're going to
enjoy it :)

When your card arrives, you'll be on here again with a couple more
questions. The answers will be:
ATI Tool.exe
Add ramsinks
Arctic Cooling VGA Silencer

That's when the real fun begins.

I purchased a built by ATI 9800PRO for $185 off Ebay, including shipping. I
think it's a great card. I went from a 9500 soft modded to a 9700, to the
9800. I do notice a difference between the 9500 and the 9800

Thanks for the heads up about Sapphire at Newegg. Good to know.
I buy a lot of stuff there.

My card will get here tommorrow. I can hardly wait!!

<SNIP!>

A little off topic, I know (SORRY! Please don't flame me too
severely!), but have any fellow bottom-feeders noticed that newegg.com
is now adding shipping charges on their refurbished parts?

Used to be that you could get refurb parts there for free shipping as
recently as last week. Overall, a 10-30% savings off the best
pricewatch.com prices. Yeah, every now & then you'd have to send
something back (& any savings were lost), but that was pretty rare. I
spent around $2k there over the last year. I guess that'll come to an
end.
