Just like to say thanks for the opinions/replies.
I replaced the Ti4200 4x 64MB with the 9800 Pro 128MB today with no big
hassles.

I've only had the new card in for about 6 hours hehehe, but so far
everything seems to checking out fine, AGP @ 8X, DirectDraw/Direct3D
7,8,9 tests ALL passed in DirectX 9.0b Diag.

Played Call of Duty and BF1942 for an hour each then I ran 3DMark2001se
and scored 17,829 points, sound about right? (sys specs below)

1. Uninstalled Nvidia drivers, Reboot.

2. Ran Driver Cleaner, only because I noticed there was a "Windows
2000/XP Display Driver" still in the Add/Remove and I couldn't remove
it, (said nv??.xxx is missing), the driver I removed first was called
something like "Nvidia Display Driver".

2a. Reboot again, Windows 2000/XP Display Driver was now gone in
add/remove.

3. Shut down, pull ti4200, install ATI card, enable AGP 8X in bios,
(Fast write was already enabled)

4. Install ATI v3.9 drivers from ATI web site (didn't use ATI CD).

5. Turned off VPU and the ATI tray icon, everything else is defaults.

Asus A7N8X v2.00(Standard) Bios 1004/Nforce 2.45's
Barton 2800+ @ 206x11 1.700v
3x256MB Corsair PC3200LLPT @ 206MHz/6-3-2-2
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro (Retail)
Audigy 2 (OEM)
etc,etc,etc
WinXP Pro SP1/ All Critical Updates as of 11/11/03
NIS/NAV 2003

Cheers,
Ed

Ed, great to hear. I too made the switch from Nvidia to ATI about a year ago
and could not be happier. If you get freezes or lockups with call of duty
you will want to disable fast writes in the ATI smartgart settings.

Hey Ed. You almost have a replica of my system. I upgraded from a Geforce
3 classic to an ATI 9800 non pro which I flashed to a pro. Like you, I had
no installation problems and all worked like a charm. Good tip on Call of
Duty. I'm going to try disabling fast writes and see if that helps. The
game has locked up a couple of times, but then VPU Recover came to the
rescue, unlocked everything and I continued. In any event, enjoy.

A few weeks ago I also replaced a GF4 Ti4200 64MB with a 9800 Pro 128MB by
following the same steps. The whole transition was surprisingly uneventful
and so far being able to play BF1942, Max Payne 2 and CoD at 1280x1024 with
4xAA/16xAF makes it all worthwhile.

Enjoy

I've used at least 6 different brands of video cards over the past 12
years, only brands I will probably never buy again would be Trident and
Diamond.

The only thing I don't like about the card is it makes my monitor switch
resolutions like 3-4 times on boot up or when restarting Windows, sounds
like a relay in the monitor switching back and forth. I've had this
Panasonic 21" since 1997 and never had this happen before with any card,
weird!

Where do get this flash?, I may want to try it on a friends card.

Thanks,

I'm using the 3.8 drivers and I don't have any problems with my monitor but
there was some monitor problem reports using the Cat 3.8/3.9 drivers. You
may want to try prior drivers (3.7) and see if it solves the problem. You
could also post at the Rage3D forums, someone there may be of help.

Ahhhh What's a windows driver got to do with booting up..., Windows
hasn't even started to load yet is what I meant. All is well otherwise.

Hey ED! I've just upgraded myself... but I'm getting studdering
issues in games like Halo / UT2003 and Unreal2.

My 3DMark01 = 15,2xxx and about 5000 in 3Dmark03.

I have a simular setup: A7v8c Barton2500 @ 2000mhz
SB Live but with Windows98

I have other system issues now (windows98 is a bit old), so the issues
are software.

PS: I recommend replacing NIS with Zonealarm, it works quite well.
I've used NIS for years, but I found ZA to be better and free.
