i inserted the music in mp3, icon appears, but it does not play

i wanted to add a sound, therefore i ripped it from cd and put it in mp3.
then i inserted it. the icon appears and its asking me all the funny, usual
questions. i click that its supposed to play by clicking on it. but neither
that works nor mouse click > play sound. nothing ....

In normal mode if you right click on the icon and choose "play sound" can you
hear it? If it does - goto slide show> custom animation and tell me what you
see
