I have XP but when I send a doc. & they do not they can not open

I have XP home edition & have been sending doc. in works but people without
access to it can not open attachments so what can I do

I would have thought that obvious - don't send them Works format files!
Current versions of Works can save in Word format, older versions can save
as plain text.
Alternatively buy a copy of Word. You can pick an original copy of Word or
Office 2000 from eBay for peanuts.
