but i am not recieving emails on both of them.
Everytime a friend of mine sends me an email, i recieve it on the "upstairs
computer" but not on the "downstairs computer" even though its the same email
address! what happened?

If you wish to receive the same email on both computers, you need to
configure both of them to leave the messages on the server after
downloading.

In Windows Mail
Tools - Accounts - youraccount - Properties - Advanced
[x] Leave a copy of messages on server
[x] Remove from server after [xx] days

Click on Tools, then Accounts, then your email account, then Properties,
then Advanced. If there is no check mark in the box before Leave a copy
of messages on server, click on this box, then Apply. Select one of the
options for eventually deleting the messages from the server as well, then
Click Apply. Click on OK, then Close.

Do this on the other computer as well.

When you download a message to your computer 'upstairs' the message is
displayed on your PC and the 'original message is more than likely 'deleted'
from your ISPs server, therefore when you use your PC downstairs to collect
emails the emails that you viewed 'upstairs' are no longer available for
download because they no longer exist on your ISPs server.

If you want to change this arrangement, then proceed as follows:

1/ In Windows Mail click Tools and then from the drop down menu, Click
Accounts.
2/ In the Accounts box highlight your email account and then click the
Properties button (on the right of the internet accounts pane).
3/ When your ISP properties window opens, Click the Advanced tab.
4/ In the advanced tab window look in the 'delivery' section at the bottom
and make sure there is a 'tick' in the 'Leave a copy of messages on server'
Any new messages that you download will then be left on your ISPs server.
5/ If you want you can also stipulate how long to leave them on the server
by clicking on the 'Remove from server after' option and specifying the
umber of days to leave them on the server.
