I have a backward P sign on screen that I cannot remove

When I click on paragraph sign on toolbar, it removes the paragraph sign from
screen but leaves me with no cursor,

How do I reset my word to normal?

Is this Word 2003? Try changing the zoom to 500% and then back to whatever
you prefer.
