My son has an Optiplex 2400. Reformatted and have following problems.
Ethernet controller, multimedia audio controller, & SM Bus controller do not
work!! No drivers installed for any of these devices. Also says there is an
IRQ conflict. All on the same IRQ. Not real computer literate so any help
would be greatly appreciated. Dont know what type of motherboard. Sound is
onboard. tried the recovery disc. No Help & cant find any drivers online.
Sorry for rambling as I am new to this.

Thankx

The problem you're having with the non-working hardware is caused by the fact
that the Windows installation disc you used to reinstall your system does not
contain the proper drivers for that hardware.

Dell should be able to provide that software, although if you know the
manufacturer and model number of each of those components you might be able
to find the drivers elsewhere. With older computers, it can be very difficult
to locate all the proper drivers.

Start on the Dell support website; I checked it, and there are several
models of Optiplex with downloads available, though "2400" was not on the
list, so you might wish to double-check that. Further, a Google search of
"optiplex 2400" turns up only 1 hit, so I suspect that model number may be
incorrect.

Once you have the model number correct, Dell's site should provide all the
additional drivers you need to get the components working properly.

Good luck!

I appreciate the help and will give your suggestions a shot. As I got this on
e-bay I dont know how to tell which sytem this is. All I know is that it it's
a p-4 2.53GHz processor. Is there anywhere to look on the computer to tell??

Dell machine have Service Tag Number. Check the PC case and find out what
it is. It is also located on the BIOS. When you go to Dell support page,
just type in the Service Tag Number and will lead you to the things you
need.

Thank you Manda. Do you know if the onboard audio device is CL Sound
blaster or the ADI 1.98x intergrated audio.

It is most likely ADI. I am not positive though. I have not seen a
Dimension 2400 yet.

I just downloaded and installed the drivers. Works Great!! Thankx Manda for
all your help!!!

Have a good one!
