I get Shutdown instead of Restart

This is the opposite of every other post and web search I have read.
While I've read many articles about machines that won't shut down, my
problem is that my machine always does a full, power-off shutdown when I
click on restart.

Can anyone tell me why - or how I fix it?

Thanks in Advance.

Integrity is obvious.
The lack of it is common.

This is probably caused by the system BIOS misinterpreting
the commands from the OS. If your system is using the
ACPI HAL you should consult your mainbaord manufacturer
for a BIOS flash upgrade to correct the problem.

Take a look through Jim Eshelman's site. He has the most complete info on
Shutdown problems around http://www.aumha.org/win5/a/shtdwnxp.htm
Thanks for the come back. I already made it there with my Google
searches and his site does not address this issue, only the opposite
(inability to shutdown because of "spontaneous" restarts). I have not
seen my problem addressed anywhere.

I was suspecting as much myself (a BIOS setting or problem), but was
hoping there might be some simple setting in the OS that I've overlooked.

I don't know what ACPI HAL is, but I do understand BIOS and motherboards
(just not keeping up with things like I used to). What I know is that I
have an MSI NForce Motherboard (AMD XP chip).

The computer is only 6 weeks old, from a shop in town that builds
generics. If the BIOS is the problem, they can help me out on Monday.

Thank for your help.

Chuck
