I get out of memory error starting access

I am trying to run Office 97 professional edition on Windows XP Home edition.
Every other application works except Access, when I try to start it I get a
"Out of Memory" message. I know the amount of memory available can't be the
issue, I have 1GB of RAM, an 80GB HDD in 2 40GB partitions which are both
almost empty so should have enough virtual memory too. Office is installed
on C: partition which is where Windows lives as well. Under Virtual memory
properties I have selected "system managed size" for the page file size...
I'm guessing I might have to buy Office 2003 Pro edition but it costs a
fortune! Office small business came with my PC but no Access included so I
really don't want to fork out AUS$800 or so for one Office component, if
anyone has any ideas would love to hear them. Cheers...
