having trouble with I/E using windows xp sp2 It doesn't show in add/remove
program and in Internet settings/explorer/file versions I have two files
missing IE cont.dll & IEcontlc.dll also IEuinit.inf states that its not
available? I can log on with Peoplepc but clicking on icons for I/E does
nothing but get a message program not responding. trying to download IE 6 and
it tells me I have the latest version. I'd like to repair it, but don't get
the option to repair. I'll be thankful for any help I can get.

Good morning Don, I don't have Weatherbug installed I don't even know what it
is.
I had some one on this that was flying around deleting things he didn't
think I needed, so when I was going through this site to see if I could find
similar things had no luck. Peoplepc told me to go to add/ remove and click
repair, well its not even listed there.Sorry it takes so long to reply but I
can't get to this till late at night. It took over an hour to get to where I
could do anything other then to get host could not be found or page can't be
found. PS the restorer was turned off when he did this so I can't get to the
time before it was done.

Hi,
You probably don't need to reinstall IE. Do you have Weatherbug installed?
If so, uninstall it. Follow the instructions at
http://www.pchell.com/support/weatherbug.shtml

If Weatherbug is not the problem, please reply to this thread. There are
other possibilities.

Hi,
Searches on "iecont.dll" and "iecontlc.dll" tell me that those files are not
needed and may not exist on any normal system. I don't think that's a
problem.

Can you open IE by double-clicking IEXPLORE.EXE (probably at C:\Program
Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE) If so, you may just have a damaged
shortcut to IE. You can create a new shortcut.

Or, try this, to reregister DLLs used by IE (a "repair" of sorts- works only
with XP SP2)
Start> Run> type in or copy and paste

"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" /rereg

(Assuming that's the path to iexplore.exe on your machine.)
[Enter] or OK

Often when IE won't open, it's caused by another program- possibly malware.

You will probably have to reinstall the SP2 update after a repair.
