...with an up to date version of Antivir and it found and quarantined these three:

The middle link shows the only information I could find on that one in English, it's mostly in French when Googled and Antivir don't seem to list it.

It took Antivir around two hours to fully scan 1K56Tb of hard disks, I didn't do the external drive yet.

I also noticed I had something installed named 'Install Shield updater' and suspected Malware but a Google told me it seems to be a legit program from Macrovision enabling me to update Install Shield.

Anybody know what that's all about? Is it worth keeping? Is it harmful? Who Macrovision?

And doesn't each software ap and game have it's own ability to install? I'm wondering which game installed the damn thing, if indeed it was a game.

I did recently update Steam with several games on this machine, and install & patch GRID, VideoWonderShare & Audio Editor Deluxe, but that's about all.

Any advice/comments/questions welcome.

Running Win XP Pro all up to date btw and I also carried out a thorough scan with SuperAntiSpyware, which just showed 25 suspicious cookies.

I'm quite liking AVIRA, and as you know from past threads I don't normally do "free" stuff, but as I can't get KIS to run with W 7 I had to go for something else...When I installed W 7 and transferred me music over, AVIRA found a lot of stuff that wasn't nice in my collection...KIS never picked that up on Vista......???

Send in each one to Antivir for analyst.

Installshield is, from what I can tell, a sneaky legitimate program, most of us have it in one form or another. Uninstall it, if you can find the uninstaller, and see what breaks. ;)

Have you got a second or third opinion from any of the online scanners?

If I can find it indeed, it seems to be an elusive bugger.

I do have folders and things I could delete, seriously thinking about it.

This thing only made itself known recently.

Do you know what? I've never used an online scanner in my life.

Strange but true.

FWIW the system is running fine - fast, responsive, no glitches.

And I do have a backup from about two months ago if the worst came to the worst (Acronis TI 10 - the freebie you linked to).

But it's still worrying.

Just had a problem with Punkbuster on my other machine actually, kept getting kicked on CoD 4 and CoD WAW. To cut a long story short PB had messed up far as I can tell, I visited their Forum, dowbloaded and ran a 'reset' feature of their's. Had to run it twice but I'm back online gaming now.

They led me to believe it was a router/Antivirus/Firewall Problem and I tried lots of stuff before I found the answer tucked away in a corner of their forums.

Did I ever mention Punkbuster is not one of my favourite things? ;)

Hi Flopps,

I have spotted that Install shield on my laptop also and dont know how it got there either. I dont usually download games apart from one game The suffering a couple of weeks back so i would rule that out cos i never got around to actually using the game installer. I might just uninstall it with another uninstaller program i have and see what happens. Will let ya know how it goes.
