i cant shut down

Hi I use my computer often and get annoyed because most the programs go quite
slow and the computer was realy fast in opening the programs when it was
bought.
I use it a lot for school work and will need it more next year because of
my gcse's and then when i come to switch it off i have to press the shut down
button several times before it actually works i have try using norton anti -
virus software and it cant find any problems which need fixing and my ad -
ware remover cant find anything either, i cant find anything manualy also i
think there is something running in the background but dont no what it could
be please help me thanks goodbye.

Make sure that you are spyware/virus free. And clean unnecessary background
applications...
