I cant reboot my windows xp home

I had spyware on my computer after my daughter downloaded screensavers. I got
a message that they were spyware and I sould quarantine them. I done that and
everything seemed fine but today I cant get into the computer at all. I just
have a black screen telling me that there is an error and to press any key to
reboot but that doesnt work. It sometimes says "Adisc read error occurred "
Press ctrl+Alt+Del but it just comes up the same message. PLEASE SOMEONE
HELP. I am disabled and I need my computer, this is one Ive borrowed to try
and get help.

I suppose in the moment, I'd try to boot to safe mode and then restore
to an earlier version. Then I start the spyware removal again, but
I'd be slow and careful.

Start the computer, repeatedly select F8 during boot, then select safe
mode from the various options.

Ive tried this repeatedly with no success. On theblack screen it has PCI device listing, I dont know if that makes a difference. Ive even tried puting in the home edition cd and the driver diskette.

If I had to bet, I'd say it's a hardware failure, which isn't going to be
something that can easily be fixed in a newsgroup.

On the other hand, you've given us very little to go on. Saying that you've
"tried this with no success" isn't enough information to go an as, we don't
know what "this" is (the previous poster gave you several steps, and we have
no idea where it failed). And "no success" doesn't tell us if you got an
error message and ifso what the error was, or whether the computer continued
to do whatever it was doing before, or whether is shut down, or what.

I'd suggest you take the computer to a shop. But if you still want to try to
work it out yourself, please give us some detail we can use, like what
exactly you're seeing, what you're trying to do, etc.

Slave Slave Disc HDD S.M.A.R.T. capability.......Disabled. All this is on a
black screen.
At the bottom it says

When I do this I get the same message again.

This isn't a Windows problem, the computer isn't getting past the point
where it's verifying all of the hardware devices. It could be a bad drive,
bad memory, bad cable, something seated wrong, bad motherboard -- or just
about anything else. Considering that it's seeing the slave drive but you
didn't mention the primary drive, it could be that the primary hard drive
has gone bad. In short, it's not something that you're going to fix with
software or by hitting keys or trying to boot from a CD or floppy. The
computer simply isn't working well enough to get to the point where it can
begin reading from a drive. Someone is going to have to open the computer
and start checking parts, testing them, replacing them. If you don't have
spare parts or the knowledge of what to do and what to check, you best bet
is to take it to a reputable shop where they can tell you what's wrong and
what it will cost to repair it.

Hi everyone I just thought I would let you know how I got on with my computer
problem. I telephoned microsoft and they gave me instructions on how to get
into the system and reboot using the Disc, all went well untill we got to the
formating stage and it stopped saying that windows/32 needed formating,
anyway the guy at microsoft said my disc probably had a scratch on it and the
best bet would be for me to get another windows xp home addition disc and try
that. I decided to try and phone someone and he came out. I discovered that
my disc wass fine it was a corrupted drive and once he got that going just
using the disc everything just fell into place.
I would like to thank those who gave there assistance in this matter. Tank
you.
