Here si the series of events:

1: tried to empty the deleted files folder and received the following
message:
c:/*/ .....outlook.pst could not be accessed. Data error (cyclic redundacy
check)
2: ran scandisk (errors were found and fixed in the outlook.pst file)
3. ran scanpst.exe (errors were found in the file and were repaired)
4: tried to empty deleted files folder and received the following message:
THe messaging interface has returned an unknown error, please restart
Outlook
5: restarted outlook (did not help_
6: reran scanpst.exe (still says I have errors) and repaired it. still
problem was NOT fixed
7: reran scanpst.exe again. Again it said I still had errors and I stioll
cannot permantly delete files.

I have been all over the microsoft site and have tried everything. I have
also tried the setect and repair option under help in outlook.

My empty folder has over 4000 messages and is filling up. THe size of the
folder is not a problem either.

ANy suggesstions?

You may have to run SCANPST multiple times to get all of the errors fixed.
You might also want to give Scandisk another shot at your hard drive -- make
sure it's set to scan for and repair errors in the sectors.

Can you manually delete items in the Deleted Items folder? If you select
one and press delete does it delete? If so what if you select a handful and
delete, can you delete those?

If that works what if you CTRL+A and then press Delete?

If I go into the deleted files folder and try to manually delete a message, I
still get the same message. I guess I will try scandisk again and multiple
runnings of scanpst, and hopefully it will eventually get fixed. Thanks

Hey Kevin, Export all your data except for your Deleted items to a PST file,
create a new profile, then import all your data... It could be directly
related to your current profile...

Do not listen to anyone who tells you to export to a PST and then import.
Exporting and importing lose data and should be used only when transferring
data between Outlook and some other application, never for transferring data
between Outlook and Outlook.

Instead, create a new PST, make it your delivery location, then transfer
your data to the new PST with drag-and-drop or copy, the exact directions
for which have been posted many times in this very newsgroup.
