outlook doesn't recognize (or hasn't found) my modem so I can't do any
automatic dialling.

the modem is listed as being present in phone and modem options
of phone and dialing properties in Control Panel (Windows 2000 professional)
but doesn't show up under dialling options in Outlook 2002

Can anyone help?

Thank you in advance

You need to ask in an Outlook newsgroup. This is for FrontPage.

This is not a FrontPage problem, but check Internet Explorer:
In IE, Tools->Internet Options
Connections Tab
Make sure there is a dial up connection listed (use Settings to verify
it is correct) and make sure "Always dial my default connection" is
selected.
