I can't copy text from one Word document

I have received a Word document from an external source and need to copy and
paste some sections, but this document won't let me. Is it protected in some
way? Can I get around it?
 
If it is from the internet, it might be because it is in web box, so you need
to individually copy each paragraph.
 
Thanks, but I can't copy even one word in this document. I can add things,
but I can't copy and paste.
