My OS is Windows Vista and for 2 months now, I have been accessing my yahoo
mail via Windows Mail. For 1.5weeks now, I cant send out mail it defaults to
my 'Outbox' and generate the following message:

Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for
this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of
inactivity. Subject 'Forests of Africa. No smoking pliz', Account:
'pop.mail.yahoo.com', Server: 'smtp.mail.yahoo.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port:
25, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F

One thing I know for sure.....
You have wrong port #. Try 465 , not 25.

Tools > Accounts > your account > Servers. Check " My server requires
authentication " > APPLY > Advanced. Change smtp port # to 465 >Put a
checkmark on SSL > OK

I am not sure the rest of your settings are accurate either. You can receive
?

Port 25 is the default one that has been working for a month (Yahoo UK &
Ireland). I tried port#465 and things did not get any better - I got the fol:

I guess "smtp.mail.yahoo.com" is right for it worked from 01/09/09 to
01/10/09. Am I right?

Sorry for late reply; am so so frustrated. I am not on the Yahoo premium Mail
Plus. I use Yahoo (UK & Ireland) Mail Classic. My current settings were
suggested by 'Windows Mail' on set up. It worked from 01.9.2009 until only
outgoing mail started playng up a mnth later on 2/10/2009. Do yu have a link
for mail classic settings?

Where did you get those settings from?
If you have Yahoo's premium "Mail Plus" service:
http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mail/original/mailplus/overview/index.html
then use the special settings for that service:
http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mail/original/mailplus/pop/pop-14.html

You have overlooked one of the instructions ....... " put a checkmark on
SSL "
That also should applies to your in-coming pop SSL.
Compare yours with the following :
Incoming (POP3) server: pop.att.yahoo.com
Outgoing (SMTP) server: smtp.att.yahoo.com
"My server requires authentication" must be checked.

Advanced tab:
Incoming mail port #: 995, secure connection (SSL) checked
Outgoing mail port #: 465, secure connection (SSL) checked.

From your original post it could not be deduced that you were located
outside the U.S. That is an important parameter. Many non-US countries
have free POP access to Yahoo Mail.
Your applicable settings are documented here:
http://help.yahoo.com/l/uk/yahoo/mail/yahoomail/pop/pop-08.html

No, those are the settings for AT&T customers.
The OP is using a UK/Ireland Yahoo account that is not affiliated with any ISP.

Your advice was a good guess based on what little information the OP provided
in his initial post.

Thanx vmuch. My ISP is T-Mobile UK. I maintained my old server settings:
pop.mail.yahoo.com & smtp.mail.yahoo.com & followed everything else suggested
by t-4-2. Its sorted now.
The link http://help.yahoo.com/l/uk/yahoo/mail/yahoomail/pop/pop-08.html is
good as it represents all my original settings with an extra suggestion to
replace port#25 with 587 which stil did not help the situation.
