i cannot open the envelopes and labels dialogue box

i first highlight the text i want to print on my envelope and then i press
the tools menu and then point at letters and mailing, but the envelopes and
labels option is not highlighted - only mailmerge, show mailmerge toolbar and
letter wizard are highlighted. how do i turn the envelopes and labels option
on?

If the text is set up as an address block in a letter there is no need to
select it. I'm not certain as it may vary depending on version, but that may
be why the menu selection is dimmed. Does the same problem persist if you
don't select any text?

This doesn't necessarily answer your question, but why don't you just put the
envelope icon on your toolbar so you can just highlight the address and click
the button and bingo - you have your envelope. To do this click on Tools |
Customize | highlight the Tools toolbar on the left and on the right look for
the envelope icon and then drag it up to your toolbar. I hope this has been
