I can not open downloaded file

I have been trying to open a dowloaded file. When I tried to doubleclicking
the screen started flashing. I had to other option to restart the computer. I
found it was a zipped file so loaded down a winzip file. When I tried to
unzip the file I found the system did not recognise the file. It is a pgn
file. Where can I find a program that opens pgn files without having to load
down other items that I already have on my computer eg Disc defrag etc.

Surely the site you downloaded from would have given you some indication as
to what was required?

Google will give many possibilities

"Pgn" stands for "portable game notation," and it's a standard format
for files containing the moves of chess games. Lots of chess software
can open it, and some is freeware. Google pgn viewer to find some
choices.

I have beeen having similar problems, when I tried to extract my first file
using Vista it told me it didn't recognize the file type. I then guessed at
the type and I was wrong; but the system changed every file in the folder to
my guessed file type. How do I get back to where I can extract these files.

I also tried downloading WinZip and on a different folder it changed all the
files to a setup file for winzip. I was then told I didn't have admin
priviledges so I needed to contact someone with priviledges to be able to
download WinZip. When I first downloaded WinZip it started to work and let me
pick a file to extract but I think it tried to open it in IE v7 and screen
started flashing. I had to do a crash type shutdown to stop the problem. Any
suggestions as how to correct the problem and get me to be the admin with all
priviledges?
