I can no longer check a task completed using the icon.

I used to be able to check the completed box in my task list to mark an item
completed. Now when I click once nothing happens. If I click twice, the
task opens. I can mark it complete by right clicking etc., but this is
cumbersome. How do I turn back on the ability to check the complete box from
the task list?
 
Which version of Outlook do you have?

Have you recently made any changed to your system? This is the second post
I have read like yours so I want to find out a bit more!
