I am unable to delete messages in Outlook Express

I am using Outlook Express 6.0 and suddenly can no longer delete emails. When
in the email itself, pressing the delete key generates a pop-up that says
"Email cannot be deleted." After clicking OK, the same pop-up comes up a
second time. Pressing ok eliminates the pop-up, but doesn't delete the email.
When in the email inbox, nothing happens when you press the delete key or the
delete icon in the header when a message is highlighted. I have no messages
in the delete file itself, so I don't believe it's a storage issue. Please
help if you can!

Hi -

This is a group to support Outlook from the Office group of programs.
Outlook Express is a part of Internet Explorer and is a quite different
program, despite its similar name..

You will probably get a faster and more expert answer if you post this to an
Outlook Express news group.

Try posting in one of these newsgroups:
microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie5.outlookexpress for OE 5.x
microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie55.outlookexpress for OE 5.5x
microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6_outlookexpress for OE 6.x
microsoft.public.internet.outlookexpress.mac for OE for Macintosh

If those groups aren't carried on the news server that's carrying this group
try using msnews.microsoft.com (MS's public news server that's the source
for all the microsoft.public newsgroups).

If you're accessing the Microsoft newsgroups through the MS Product Support
Services Community Newsgroups web interface, click
http://communities.microsoft.com/newsgroups/default.asp?icp=InternetExplorer
to get to the Internet Explorer groups, then click the plus sign next to
your version of IE to see the link to the Outlook Express group for that
version number.

A good website for information on OE is:
http://www.insideoe.com/

I had a similar problem deleting msgs from within OE. Click 'Start' ,
'Search' , and in 'All Files and Folders' type Deleted Items.dbx .
When you get the results, delete the .dbx files . Reopen OE, and a
new, undamaged folder will be created automatically by OE.

CarolAnn,
I have the same problem you sited several months ago. Were you able to
resolve your problem of not deleting emails? I tried the "Deleted Items.dbx"
search, but nothing showed up threw the search.

If you were able to fix the problem, how did you do it?

Thank you,
Arthur

Thanks for the directions. Worked for me.

This is an answer to a post from 2006. I recently had the same problem. I
compacted my outlook folders (a box kept popping up as I signed out of OE to
compact my messages & I finally took the hint). Problem solved.

I did the search as you said and I made double sure I spelled everything
correctly and the search turned up nothing. I mean nothing, I did it several
times making sure every thing was spelled right. The ony file it found was
from a back up of my e-amails I made two years ago and that file had not
changed, as it had the last used date of 2007. But, no newer files of
"deleted Items.dbx" What do you suggest?

Try contacting the folks in the Outlook Express group.

This worked for me! I had the same problem. However I was only able to make
it work by doing a search for .dbx in all folders/files and then when it
created a long list of .dbx files I clicked the Deleted Items one. Deleted
that, and everything was back to normal/able to delete emails again. THANKS!!!
