To re-install Windows XP? No need to copy the i386 folder to the hard
drive to do this. Just boot the computer from the Windows XP cdrom and
have it autorun setup from that point.
Put the XP CD in the drive and hold down the Shift key until the CD spin
slows down (this prevents the CD from launching).
Open My Computer
If you don't see the drives on the left pane, click the Folders button.
Click the plus next to your CD drive
On the right side, right click on the i386 folder and drag it to C: on
the left pane (assuming C: is your OS drive).
Let go of the right click and select Copy Here.

c:\> xcopy /e d:\i386 c:\i386 [press enter] (d:\ = CD ROM drive)
Asked for 'file' or 'directory' choose 'directory'
Should copy the entire i386 files & all sub folders
you can then do either of these:
c:\>cd\i386 [press ENTER]
c:\i386>setup.exe
or
c:\>c:\i386\setup.exe [press ENTER]
