Hi Arnold,
Yes Windows 2000 does support hyperthreading, but the 'logical' 2nd
processor on a Hyperthreaded CPU appears as a second physical processor to
Windows 2000. So a hyperthreaded Intel CPU looks like 2 physical processors
to Windows 2000, and you need to be sure your version of the O/S supports
that many processors.
e.g., a 1 CPU version of Windows 2000 Professional will only recognize the
one logical processor on a hyperthreaded CPU. If you have 4 Hyperthreaded
processors in a Windows 2000 Server, you will need to use Advanced server,
since Standard server only recognizes 4 CPU's, but the HAL will identify 8
processors. You can continue to use standard server, but it will not take
advantage of the hyperthreaded CPUs.
Hope that answers your question.
