Hyperlinks: Word 97 Vs Word 2003

When using Word 97, I had hyperlinks that would go from one document to
another that worked like the following: click on the link in doc1 and doc2
would open, then I would press the 'back' button on the web toolbar and doc2
would close, returning me to doc1.

now, in word 2003, when I click a hyperlink and click the back button, I'm
returned to doc1, but after doing this several times, I realized that the
doc2 was still open on the taskbar.

Is there a setting that can be used to close the second document when I use
the 'back' button, instead of having to leave it open?

Thank you.

If I remember correctly, doc 2 would still have been open in '97 - it simply
didn't show up as a button on the Task Bar. Clicking Back just swapped doc 1
to the front so it covered doc 2.

Regardless, if you follow Charles' suggestion and Close doc 2, it goes away
& doc 1 comes right back to the front... still only one button to click.
