Hyperlinks & PDF documents

Can I create a hyperlink to open/view a document that I've scanned in PDF
Format?

I've successfully done hyperlinks to word documents/e-mails/website/excel -
but can't get one to open a pdf file - only the folder that it's contained
in.

I don't think you are asking a question about Microsoft Access, so here is
what I tried in Microsoft Word:
I typed in the path and file name into the document.
C:\Documents and Settings\myself\My Documents\test.pdf
I highlighted it, right clicked, hyperlink, I typed the above address into
the address area at the bottom, the same in Text to Display, and test.pdf as
the screen tip.

I used CTRL Click to activate the hyperlink, I got the usual warning about
opening hyperlinks, but it opened fine.

You can use hyperlinks in Access too.

Instead of a hyperlink, have a look at ShellExecute:

it will not use an OLE field and will be both indexable and lower in
resources, while accomplishing the same result.

I'm having the same problem. I made a new Word document and inserted a
hyperlink to a PDF document. When I click the hyperlink, Acrobat Reader opens
and flashes away. The document still doesn't open. Can someone help me with
this problem

Is this a question about Microsoft Access? If so, please describe the
details of what you have done so far.

I'm having the exact same problem. Our dept is using Windows XP, and our
application uses an Access front end with Mysql back end. We are using a
hyperlink our application to allow users to link each file with a scanned
letter in .pdf form. So, for example, when they look up and see that ABC
Company is in our database, they can click the hyperlink and it will show
them that company's business license. This application has been deployed to
about 50 users. We are having no problem creating the hyperlink and for most
viewing it. But for a few, when they click the hyperlink to view the .pdf,
the doc will flash on the screen really quickly and disappear.

I'm not sure if this is an Access question or not. I think it may be a
systems setting. But they are able to view .pdf documents outside of the
Access application.

Did you find out why they open and flash away....I did the same.....added a
PDF hyperlink in excel. opens fine, but flashes away so fast you can't even
see it.

Yep.....meanwhile that is what I did and it worked. Now I just have the
problem of being able to read them off my computer but when I email the excel
file to another on the same server the hyperlinks fall off. The pdf file I
put in the hyperlink is off a shared drive why wouldn't that work?

What do you mean the hyperlinks fall off? Do they disappear? If you're
using Excel, they should be saved onto the spreadsheet.

The only things I can think of are that maybe the hyperlink path is
something that is germaine to your computer...like instead of
S:/DocumentFile/Document1.pdf ("S" being a shared drive), you have created a
shortcut on or something on your desktop that other people don't have and
will not be able to follow. Or, maybe the other users don't have the same
server rights as you. Or, they may be mapped to the shared server
differently (they may not have it mapped as the S drive, maybe they use the
"H" drive to get there.

This is stuff you may have already thought of...I'm just thinking out loud.
But as long as everyone's set up uniformly, you should be able include
hyperlinks in an Excel spreadsheed and email among common users.
