Hyperlinks in emails disappear if a second email is opened

If I open an email with a hyperlink to it, select the hyperlink, then
minimize the email and open a second email and hyperlink, I lose the first
hyperlink. It (the first hyperlink) flashes on the screen and then
disappears.

It is probably a setting that needs to be changed but I don't know which one.

Hyperlink to what? To a message?

My version of Outlook is 2003. I am reading the links (or viewing). These
are hyperlinks to internet web sites.

What do you mean by the hyperlink "flashes on the screen"?
