Hyperlinks in Access

I have a database with hyperlinks to some word templates that i have put
together.
When I open them through the hyperlinks they open as a word documents not
word templates. How can I stop this from happening?
 
I tried to recreate your situation, but for me, a template did open, not a
document. This is my hyperlink:

C:\Documents and Settings\xxx\Desktop\test.dot
