I don't think you'll get any good guesses based on the lack of details.

But...

Saved from a previous post:

If I want a link in Excel that points at a specific location in an MSWord
document, I'd add a bookmark to that document and use one of these:

(Insert|hyperlink style)
C:\MY DOCUMENTS\WORD\MyDoc.DOC#bkmk01
Or
=hyperlink() style:
=hyperlink("C:\MY DOCUMENTS\WORD\MyDoc.DOC#bkmk01")

Thank you Dave for your reponse

Anyhow this is the scenario

I have many reports in a folder made in word document

I have now created a excel file in a table format: srno, incident number,
location of incident, type of incident, loss category etc etc and place in
the same folder.

Now when I click on incident number(which has the created hyperlink) it is
not pointing to the document. anyhow I will try your style and revert.

Once again thank you. The outlook express newsgroups are the fundamental
source of my PC knowledge and lifeline.

Even though you're linking from Excel to Word, you may want to ask in an MSWord
forum if you have more trouble.

I finally got a way around.

I cut everything from the word document and pasted into a blank document and
saved it as a new file
it saved in 2003 format.
I hit the convert key under office and saved it as 2007 file.

After that when I inserted hyperlink it worked perfect.

I still did not understand the problem but the solution is perfect.
