I am trying to open a hyperlink I inserted into my ppt presentation. When I
click on the icon, it states that it cannot download the information I
requested. However, it will open if I open the ppt with the Powerpoint
Viewer.

Where does the link point to?

And what's the *exact* text of the error message?

The exact message says "Cannot download the information you requested"
The link (clip art) is supposed to go do a website when it is clicked.

What's the url and what action setting have you applied to the clip art?
Also, what version of PPT and what version of the PPT viewer are you using?

Download? From where are you downloading? From a site you yourself put
the ppt presentation on? If so, did you physically include the hyperlinked
file as part of the online folder? Have you tried to get the hyperlinked
file through FTP? That will usually work.

Hi, sorry it took me so long to get back. the url is http://www.pbskids.org
When I looked to see what version of ppt i was using, it is now only showing
that I have powerpoint viewer 2003. I got this computer about a year ago and
microsoft office xp was installed on it, so i'm not sure what version ppt i
have. thanks.

I just added some clip art to a slide, gave it an action setting of Link to: URL
and typed in http://www.pbskids.org

Saved the file.

Opened in PPT Viewer 2003 on another PC and when I clicked the link, I got the
usual MS_Nanny warning about "If you click this link, your computer might
explode" and after telling that to go 'way, I got a popup from my firewall.

After OKing that, PBS Kids loaded w/o further ado.

So ... do you have a firewall or other security system that might be blocking
the connection to the internet in general or this site in particular?

If I engage the firewall's "Lock", then clicking the link in Viewer eventually
gets me a "PowerPoint Viewer cannot find the file "http://www.pbskids.org"
message.

I don't know if that'll shed any light ... hope so.
