hyperlink to file regardless of file extension

hello,

does anyone know of a way to make a hyperlink to search for an
individual file in a folder?

Catch: The extension may change and i still need it to open.

Is there a way to just open the file name regardless of the extension?

ex.. example.tif is changed to example.dgn

is there a way for the same hyperlink to open just the "example"
filename regardless of the .tif or .dgn??

thanks for any help

Matt,

No. Hyperlink needs an extension.

What would happen if Example.pdf, Example.Tif, and Example.XLS all existed?

is there a way to open the exact file if it exists and if not, open
just the folder itself so that the file could be located?

No, not to my knowledge - you would need to use VBA to do that.
