Hyperlink to a ppt

My presentation (lets call this the primary one) runs smoothly until I click
on a hyperlink to another powerpoint presentation (the secondary one). When
running the primary presentation and clicking on the hyperlink, the secondary
presentation opens, I page though, and press Escape to return to the primary
presentation.

However, from that point on, the Page Down button will no longer advance the
presentation (however other methods of advancing work).

Also if I press Escape to exit the primary presentation, my system hangs on
a black screen showing nothing but a white cursor arrow that doesn't have any
effect when the mouse is clicked. I have to CTRL-ALT-DELETE. On the Task Mgr
window, the viewer is still running secondary presentation. When I end the
viewer, I exit back to Windows Explorer, from which I launch the primary
presentation.
What's going on?

The first thing I'd try is clicking on Help, Check for updates. If you don't
need any updates then try Help, Detect and Repair.

I think I just read that the viewer does not support links or embedded files.
Is this correct? Perhaps this is my problem?
