hyperlink changes when doc emailed

To an email, I attached a document that contained a hyperlink. When the
addressee opened the document, the hyperlkink did not work.

should I have locked the hyperlink in some way prior to sending the document?

Hi Jane,
Give an example of the HYPERLINK, before you mailed and what it
was changed to by/at the receiver's end. The question is too ambiguous.
