Hi,

Can anyone tell me what the file hyberfil.sys is.

It is in the root of my C drive and takes up 1GB

Cheer,

Jonathan

It is a file that will have the entire contents of Ram written to it
before the computer goes into "Hibernation" ( A form of Standby).
When the computer is restarted, those contents are re-loaded
into Ram and the system resumes from that point.

If you do not use the Hibernation mode, it's best to simply
disable it.

It's taking up IGB 'cos you have 1GB of RAM installed. It's the file
used by Hibernate to store the system state, ie the contents of your
RAM. This file resides in the root of the OS partition & can't to moved
to another location.

If you want to remove this file, turn off hibernation under Power
Options & it should disappear. I find Hibernate works well & reliably on
my system.

It is the file in which windows stores the entire content of RAM if you
Hibernate rather than shutdown totally. If you do not use hibernation,
go to Control Panel, Power Options, Hibernate page and uncheck 'Enable
Hibernation' - and the file will go
