Dear Sir/Mam

I am a chinese Student currently in the UK. I got a major
problem with my Thinkpad 2647-4AH. I have a international
warranty, S/N 99TLM80. If you can help me solve the
problem via email, I will really appreciate it.

I am using a Chinese version windows2000 professional
oprating system. Last time when I was in Copenhagen, I
installed a English version Windows Media player which
caused a unbootable bluescreen. I brought the Thinkpad to
the local service centre, and the engineer finally fixed
it by going one step back (he told me so). I was told that
there is a major conflict between the Chinese operating
sys and English version Media player.

Yesterday, I installed a Chinese version windows Media
player that I thought there would be no conflict, but I
was wrong, the bluescreen came again, and the win2k is
unbootable once again. I can either boot from a start up
disk or from the recovery cd to DOS. But I do not know the
DOS command for undoing the installation of Media player.
Could you Please tell me the method or the DOS command or
something else that can let me going back to the previous
position that before the installation of Media player?

Please help me. I have lots of very important uncopied
datas on the thinkpad. Thanks for your time.

yours sincerely

Ligang ,

Boot the computer in "Safe Mode with Command Prompt"
option and perform the following steps mentioned below to
uninstall Windows Media Player:

1.Type the following command (exactly, do not even
add a space) and press Enter:

rundll32.exe setupapi,InstallHinfSection uninstall 132
c:\windows\inf\wmp.inf

Note: The command is case sensitive.

3. Restart the computer.

4. Empty the C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player folder.

After performing the steps mentioned above, please check
if the problem persists.

Dear Srikanth

I typed the exact DOS command and after I press Enter, I
was informed "the installation failed" with a OK button.
Problem still persists. any other method? thank you.

Srikanth said to not add even a space, however, I think there was a space
between the "132" and the "c:\windows\inf\wmp.inf" that disappeared when the
long command was wrapped onto a second line by your newsreader.
