A friend just purchased a new computer with Windows XP home. There teenager won't take the time to learn or even watch the tutorials and I have been asked twice to help out by doing a system restore which worked just fine. But, the most recent error message even has me stumped as I have never seen it and cannot find it in any of my XP notes. The message that comes up when starting the computer and it freezes and won't load was "HV Frequency" I was not there to view the message and they did an entire restore by using the CD and of course I was asked to come and reload everything for them which I have done. I am curious to what the message was referring to... I could only guess what "HV frequency" was and afraid that it might mean "High Voltage" for HV. Can anyone enlighten me to what the message meant as it just might happen again and I would like to know just what it meant and how or why they got this message?

Scroll down to the middle for a HV Test

Good luck

More likely referring to the Horizontal or Vertical refresh rate
frequencies.

Check your monitor specs, and video card specs, be sure to select rates
(generally all you can control is the Horizontal) that are correct for your
monitor/card combination. You'll find this in Display
properties/Advanced/Monitor Settings/ Screen Refresh rate. It may be
advisable to checkmark the box "Hide modes this monitor cannot display."
