HTTP vs FTP and FP Components

Dick

As I continue to try to find the solution for the authoring error I
get when trying to publish from FP2000, I have noticed something that
may provide a clue. I can publish (copy) the entire website using
FTP, however, the FP hit counter doesn't increment like it used to
when publishing with the HTTP address. Does that prove there is
something wrong with the ISP FP extensions, or is this just because I
am copying with FTP rather than "publishing"?

When you FTP to a site using FP server extensions and components such as the
hit counter, the extensions become corrupt and the components don't work.
You must http publish.

The host will now need to run a check/health on the extensions, or reinstall
them.

you need to publish via the http: method from frontpage when using frontpage
server extensions - publishing via FTP method from frontpage will not work.

I wish I could, but my ISP is not willing to find out why the FP
extensions are not working on my website. After a couple of weeks of
phone calls and experiments, I have given up. Their final suggestion
was to try something other than FrontPage. Right! I had no problem
publishing with HTTP for over a year until recently.
