I have a laptop that recently was updated to XP SP2. after
the upgrade I lost HTTP. I have 3 web browsers on the
laptop, and they all do the same thing. I can not open a
web page, like say Yahoo.com, But I am able to ping
Yahoo.com. I am getting name resolution with DNS, but no
HTTP. I get a connection refused error message with
mozilla firefox, and a Cannot find server error with
Internet Explorer. I assumed it was SP2 so I uninstalled
SP 2. That did not help out at all. I can not telnet or
ftp from the command line any more either. XP Home is the
OS I have installed on this laptop

Quick Update:

I read through some of the threads about winsock
corruption, so I decided to use some advice Chuck gave to
another person, I reset all my winsock registry entries,
and I reinstalled TCP/IP. this did not work, so I am now
thinking Virus right, SO. I start the computer in safe
mode with networking, and bam, Internet, so I am sure
there is something in the computer that is messing me up.
I looked into the history of IE, and found a couple of web
sites in there, that may be the culprit (Damned Teenagers)
so I am reinstalling SP2 and I am gonna pray for the best,
and run Ad Aware. if anyone has any tips that would help
just in case, I would love to hear them, Thanks
