HTML nightmare

After getting rid of a trojan; my file types are all "HTML". Excel, PPT, Word etc. Do not know how to change these all. Note that I can restore to old version and save and this works but have way to many files to even consider doing this. Do not understand this? Data is there as it shows correct kb but will not open as an HTML. Any help or advice appreciated.
