HTML email with images via cid

In an HTML email an image can be referenced via "img / src / cid". These
images seem to be attached to the email.

Which mail clients do support this? Is this a standard, or is it an
Outlook-only feature?

Thank's a lot for the answer. Does anybody know, where to find a sample for
creating such an email with ASPSmartMail?
