Huib

Hi,
Very strang as it is working by others: some as reduced funtionality or
full.

-the scanner is dedected automatically: but even fotogallery he is seen but
after import no action, the same within Irfanview ..

-after installing the SW - CD within the compatibility moet of XP - Service
package the HP-dirigent is mentioning a compatibility problem....
-trying to repair the SW i got the message tha i have the dowload Internet
Explorer 5.0 or higher???? (within vist IE7.0??)

Going back to an eralier restore point is no more possible and clean restall
is not an option for me.

Who can help?

I don't fully understand the problem but did you download this file
from HP and use that?

HP Basic Feature Driver
HP Scanjet 4570c Scanner

Note that it is a basic driver and some features may not work. Note
also what that page says about ignoring an error message.

You know you must install USB connected devices by installing the
software while the USB cable is NOT plugged into the PC.
clean restall is not an option for me.

I take it you mean of VISTA?

What you should do is completely remove all traces of any previous
attempts to install the scanner software using Uninstall and delete any
icons for the scanner. Then reboot with neither the scanner nor the USB
cable connected to the PC.

Download the driver from HP and make sure you use Save and not Run when
you click on the Download Only button. Make a note of where it
downloads to on your PC.

Then install the downloaded driver -- to do this right mouse click on
the filename where ever it has been downloaded to and select Run as
Administrator and OK your way out.

Hi,
I suppose you mean the following driver: set_up_basis 4500/5500.exe
I clean all traces completely up and even went into the register for it.
I realize that it is a reduced functionality although it seems that other
can run the complete SW (e.g. within XP compatibility mode).

The only thing I didn't was executing the driver without the USB connected
and no restart after the execution.

But unfortunally the same: in photogallery ...i see the scanner but not any
action after import
in Irfanview ...i see the scanner
but activating ....twain_32 error

That's the file I saw on the HP website.

in Irfanview ...i see the scanner
but activating ....twain_32 error

That may be helpful since it means that Windows Image Acquisition
(WIA)is not seeing the scanner which wants to use TWAIN (as my SJ5P
does).

If you try again you could try two things:

Make sure the scanner is not connected to the PC this time -- that
stops Windows from grabbing the scanner instead of letting the HP
software function.

Go to Control Panel / Administrative Tools / and double click on
Services.

Scan down the list until you see Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) and
double click on that. Change Startup Type to Disabled and OK your way
out -- then reboot the PC and see if it sets up the TWAIN link to the
scanner.

If it does you won't see an entry in the VISTA utilities like Fax and
Scan but you should, if you are like mine, see Scan to entries in any
HP software it installs and in Irfan View (called Acquire on the File
menu I think) and Word.

If that makes it work you can try going back into Services and putting
WIA on Automatic again.

If none of that works and you don't want to get a new scanner then try
downloading the HP softwre for WIndows XP:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?
os=228&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=77368&lang=en

hp photo and imaging software

11-2003 2.0 - 232.08M

Make a note of where it downloads to on your computer (use SAVE not RUN
on downloading) and then after removing any previous attempts to
install including any icons for the scanner Right mouse click on the
downloaded file, select Properties and the Compatibility TAB. Set it to
XP with SP2 and check the [x] Run as Administrator line. OK your way
out and hope that sets it up.

If it does you may want to go back to that download page and get the
patches and updates -- install them in the same way: right mouse click
... Compatibility etc each time.

Hope that may solve the problems.

Hi, thanks for the help.
After disabling the WIA in systems indeed (logical) i didn't see the scanner
but unfortunally after activating in Irfanview the Acquire...i got the
message again no drive connected or Twain driver error. (of course i didn't
forgot to connect the scanner).
I activated the Wia again: was on manual (but was started) and changed it
now to automatic.

On your next proposal i did already some experimens: (installing it as the
compatibility mode of XP)
-the photo image sarted up fine but the Hp-directory was scrambled....
-I only installed in my view the most imported changes (one of the last).
-I was afraid of installing patches e.g. for Office 2003 and others as i am
using 2007

Finally my complete system was blowed up (no idea what happened) but even
taking a recent restore point caused problems, the system started up but the
Windows Installer was trying to install the XP- SW but continued for ever.
Trying to remove the related SW didn't succeed neither as the SW told me
that an installation was going on....
Only by taking a restore point before i started the installation of the
XP-SW solved the problem.

You can undestand that before i start again with that experience i want to
be rather sure on succes.

Would appreciate your final advice.

Hi,
When you give me the final go to install the related XP SW i would do it as
following:
-scanner not connected
-install col3927, then CIT 207355-HP-com-patch V8 and finally (semi optionam
col10862).

Restart, cross fingers and wait .... if not successfull hopeless and the
other updates are no more reauired.
Nevertheless the question is kept "why does the HP4570C does it by other
Vista users, mostly in reduced mode, and by some people with the full SW.

If ok, than installing sj753mu, col4425du, col6596, col 4574, col96du (i
suppose which one first is not important).

Hi,
I just executed the col3927 ant the Cit-patch ......
Result: after restart the system crashed and could even nog restore itself.
Via save mode i succeeded to select a recent restore point and could restore
the system.

Any explanation how it could happen?

Sorry about your experience for which I've no explanation except that
once a system starts crashing you need to correct that -- VISTA does
have a System Repair mode but I'm not sufficiently expert in VISTA
itself to state how you access it.

Personally I would have delayed installing the updates and fixes until
I found the printer working. I just wanted to draw your attention to
them.

So I would hope you can get some help from VISTA experts here about the
VISTA repair mode and how to get back to as clean a VISTA installation
as you can.

Sorry not to be able to help more than that.
