Hperlink Target

If I create a hyperlink in a powerpoint presentation the link is opened in a
new window when the presentation is viewed as a slideshow. However, when the
page is saved is a html page the link opens in the same window and there
appears no way of setting the target frame to be new window (as you can in
Word or pretty much any other authoring tool)
Is there a way around this as it seems pretty illogical.

Have you tried opening the ppt file that is saved as webpage in notepad, then
look for the hyperlink.
Add a 'target=_blank'. It should be something like:
<a href="test.html" target=_blank>Click me!</a>

The code is slightly different but, yes, I can edit the html in notepad and
this is fine for one of presentations. I find it a little strange that the
other office apps allow you to set the target fram but not ppt???

No idea.
Here's what I found though.
If you save it as single file webpage, the default target is parent. On the
other hand, if you save it as a webpage instead of single file webpage, the
default target is blank, which opens up new window.

Depending on your other needs, and if editing the raw html is a nuisance, have
a look at our PPTools PPT2HTML addin for PowerPoint.

Among other things, it allows you to automatically create links that open in
the same window, a single add'l window or a new window for each link clicked.

Info and a free fully functional demo available at http://ppt2html.pptools.com
