HP6980 & VISTA: Will Do Automatic Duples Printing

D

David

I have an HP6980 printer with the automatic duplex attachment. It worked
fine with XP but under Visat I can not get it to print duplex using the
duplex hardware.

The software lets me select auto duplex but it always does manual duplex.

Has anyone else seen this.

I use a USB connection to the printer as the network connection under
VISTA did not always work.

Have you checked with HP? There website says that they have a full
Featured driver available

The default in the Vista driver is that the duplexer is not installed. Go
to Printer, Properties, Device Settings, Installable Options and make sure
the settings for "Duplex Unit (for automatic two sided printing" is set to
installed.

Hi Bob,

Does this also apply to the Vista driver for Deskjet 5160 (not 5610).

I have a duplex device installed and I sent an email to HP to ask if
it works under Vista and the answer was "I don't know"

Thanks HP

Thanks for the input. I downloaded the HP drivers over the weekend and
loaded just the minimal set of options that HP has. This time, at least so
far. the primter does print automatically duplex when I select the duplex
option. It also works as LAN printer with wired Ethernet. I haven't tried it
with just a wireless connection yet.

I checked this out and see that this time the automatic duplex hardware
option is checked. This may have been the issue in my previous
installation. I did not check this out then though. So far it is working
again OK.

I do not know, but it is easy enough to check - just go to the printer's
folder and check to see of thee duplexer is enabled. If not then enable
it....

I just went to the HP website, and looked for the drivers for a HP
LaserJet II, which I still use. This is the list of drivers showing:

» Microsoft MS-DOS
» Microsoft Windows 3.1
» Microsoft Windows NT 3.51
» Microsoft Windows NT 4.0
» Microsoft Windows Server 2003 64-Bit Edition
» Microsoft Windows Vista
» Microsoft Windows Vista (64-bit)
» Microsoft Windows XP 64-Bit Edition
» OS/2

Oddly, Win 95, 98, 98SE, ME and 2K are all missing. Why would that be?
Microsoft doesn't support Win 3.1 anymore or DOS either, but they are
there. This is beginning to look even more nefarious than I originally
expected.

OK, this is getting weirder still:

I looked up the HP 1100 and this is the list for that printer:

» Linux
» Microsoft MS-DOS
» Microsoft Windows 2000
» Microsoft Windows 3.0
» Microsoft Windows 3.1
» Microsoft Windows 3.11
» Microsoft Windows 95
» Microsoft Windows 98
» Microsoft Windows ME
» Microsoft Windows NT 4.0
» Microsoft Windows Server 2003
» Microsoft Windows Server 2003 64-Bit Edition
» Microsoft Windows Vista
» Microsoft Windows Vista (64-bit)
» Microsoft Windows XP
» Microsoft Windows XP 64-Bit Edition
» OS/2

However, some links don't seem to lead to drivers, and now the website
is not responding at all... I'll have to get back to this when the
website works again...
