HP1300 or Brother 5050 Lasers Any Good

Apart from currently investigating a colour laser (other NG postings) my
desk top laser a PagePro 1100L went dead on me yesterday and I need to get a
replacement fast. On the shortlist is a HP 1300 and a Brother 5050.

However with having a nearly new toner cartridge for the PagePro perhaps I
should just a get its newer version to enable me to use up the toner. On
toner I have always found few suppliers and often out of stock problems with
PagePro supplies.

I need a faster speed the PagePro was 10 ppm and better quality output on
graphics the Pagepro was 600x600 and output looked grainy. Just about
acceptable for sending out drafts of proposed documents.

Any help from you guys much appreciated.

I think Staples is selling the PagePro 1250W for $99 after rebate this week.
Don't know if it'll take your 1100L toner cartridge, however. I don't have
any experience with the 5050, but I can tell you the 1300 stinks. It has a
hard time fusing toner to anything except very smooth paper. This pretty
much rules out most cotton papers and letterhead. The toner just rubs or
flakes off. I'm not sure if printing at 600dpi instead of 1200dpi would
help, but what's the point of buying such an expensive printer if you can't
use 1200x1200?
