HP Scanner Question

Does anyone know if HP will support the 5400 series of scanners (a
number of models from 5400 to 5490) under Vista? These are USB scanners
from about 2003. HP has been non-responsive (no answer either way).

Also, the same question for the HP Photosmart 7350 printer.

Barry,
In my ongoing discussions with HP,ever since beta 2 5384;they have
stated every time;that they'll have Vista drivers when Vista goes
public(RTM).
Sorry, that's what they've told me-bummer too;since I never did get my
HP Photosmart 7450 running. (bought an Epson-back in the day-5384- LOL)

I guess that means November 30th.

It would be nice to know if I have to plan on getting a new scanner &
printer, or using them only under XP (I will have dual boot).

I have been able to get my HP Photosmart 7760 Printer to work under Vista by
using 7800 drivers. I have a HP 4400c Scanner and it is dead in the water
under 5744 Vista.

On the HP scanner model I was enquiring about (HP 5490C), Vuescan
requires that the HP software be installed first. Consequently, if the
HP sofware doesn't work with Vista, Vuescan isn't going to be a solution.

Hi

At least for Vista 64-bit I don't think they are. Check this link:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...=us&lc=en&dlc=en&product=60665&dlc=en&lang=en

It is a link for Windows XP Pro x64 drivers, and they do not plan to support
neither your scanner nor mine (a perfectly-working 5370...) with 64-bit
drivers. If they don't plan it for XP64, I don't think they will for Vista
64 either.

Since I am already working (and liking very much) with the RC2 x64 version,
I guess it's time to change scanners...

If they are current products and they plan to sell them as Vista Ready, they
will have to have both 32 and 64 bit drivers. Otherwise looks bleak,

I can tell you that the 4215V all in One auto-loaded with Bista, all aspects,
even the scanner seem to work well..

I'm planning on using the 32-bit version of Vista, but that link is not
encouraging.

Looks like you have the answer - bleak. Like many of us when XP X64 came
out, it was time to find new equipment. This time I suggest that one
consideration is that the manufacturer does a reasonable job of supporting
older models with drivers as well as new systems quickly.

Barry--

Don't know about HP 5400 suppose they will; but I have been able to get HP
5300 Scanjet driver in and up and running on every build that Vista girls
and boys hatched through 5840 since the baby one.

One tip I've found in Vista is to plant the driver download from the HP site
wherever you like, and then go to device manager if there is an entry and
add hdw wiz from cont panel if not, and "browse" to location of driver and
type in file path of the location when prompted.

Also I was advised some time ago by the Vista printer team in a chat with
them, that another alternative if you have trouble with scanners is to look
for the appropriate Twain DS driver but I haven't found one of those for my
scanner--still got it working.

Those beta chats are available on the web but of course MSFT hasn't had the
sense to put them on their sites as continuing education. and that is
unfortunate since Jill Zoeller knows it would reach more people on the major
MFST Vista sites and has no obstacle whatsoever to posting them there.

I have made drivers work for hdw that the Vista upgrade advisor said I could
not, ( a very unreliable entity the so called Upgrade Advisor--it
malpractices a ton), and for sound cards that everyone said I could not, and
for my HP SJ 5300. But analogous to making friends with every single doggie
behind a "Beware Vicious Dog" fence, I am sure that's not true of lol every
device.
