HP Scanjet With XP

I've installed an HP Scanjet on a workstation but it runs
(and installs) only under my Admin account. Is there a
way to let users have access without granting them full
privileges?
Thanks...

Printers are not shared by default when you install them on
Windows XP Professional, but you can choose to share any
printer you install on your computer:

1. Open XP's "Help and Support Center".
2. In the Search box type: Share Printer , and hit enter.
3. Click on the task titled: "Share your printer".

You can share printers and fax machines but there's no
place to share a scanner, which is what we have...

You can't share your scanner. There are some networkable ones, but you
probably don't have one....

I believe that you are asking if there is a way to allow users to use the scanner on the workstation without giving them local administrative rights, the answer is yes.

You can "shotgun" this problem, but this is not very secure. Under "Program Files" go to the HP scanning application directory and give the users WRITE permissions to that HP application directory and check the box for propogation to its subfolders.

A more secure way to handle this is to give rights to just the files specifically needed. Turn on object access security logging, run the scanner application as a user, and check the security logs for the individual files which the users did not have rights. Change the permissions on just these files.
