HP Scanjet Freezes computer using XP pro when opening application

My HP Scanner, Scanjet 2200c freezes my system when I try to open the HP software to start scanning. Eventualy, about 10 minutes later the HP Software opens, and everything seems Ok. But for about 10 minutes I have to wait to usen anything else.

I downloaded the software update and new drivers, but I still have the same problem. Can any one help me? Thank You.
