HP Scanjet 4C schematic

I wonder if there is anybody here who might have schematic diagram of
HP 4C SCSI scanner or have experience in repairing them?
The thing is that I have infamous scanner initialisation problem, or at
least I think so. So any help would be greatly appreciated.

I own a 4C, was working for HP when I bought it, and
was doing peripheral support at the time. The repair
strategy was unit-exchange, and I suspect that even
on return of units to HP, no component-level or even
FRU replacement repair was done outside the factory.

I never saw a schematic. Even if you had one, odds are
high the failure is in some hard-to-replace item, like a
custom IC (but more likely the lamps, which can't last
forever, and having a schematic won't help with the lamps).

Changed anything on the system or SCSI bus lately?
What SCSI card are you using? What OS? What ASPI?
Tried re-seating the terminator?

If you are stuck on the 4c, and yours is truly failing, buy a
used working one on eBay or local flea market. And no,
mine isn't for sale, besides which, red is starting to get
weak on it.

Yes, I've seen comments like that already. In my case, actually, I tend
to believe that something might be wrong with power supply unit. I got
the idea after visiting HPs site, and among solutions for "black or
empty screen" while scanning it was mentioned to check if power supply
is right for that printer. Obviously 4C has internal PSU, so it is
worth giving a try. So one of these days I'll take my osciloscope and
start checking voltages. Also, from my repair experience, PSUs are
first place to look in electronic devices older than 10 years or so,
even if everything looks ok at first sight.

In this case the lamp is _very_ bright so I don't think it is the
culprit.

Well, that scanner was laying around for quite a while, and I bought it
for peanuts few years ago, so I decide to finally try to do something
with it. :) So, the answer is W2K SP4, tried it on two computers, one
with AHA-2940 one with Tecram DC-315, even installed Adaptec ASPI on
one PC. No joy. I have Linotype-Hell HS 5C (aka Vobis Highscreen, aka
Umax Astra 1200S) working OK on the PC with Tecram card (after I
figured out to use Astra driver that is built-in in W2K) :). As per
termination, I haven't external terminator for 4C, only tried with that
small switch that is built-in to the scanner, next to SCSI connector.

Hell no, I just hate to throw things to garbage unless I try every
possible way of fixing it. :) And so far that Linotype thing is doing
quite well.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that SCSI card (both of them) sees and
correctly reports the scanner at SCSI ID #6.
