Bought an HP 8750 .. 13 " wide printer. (mainly since it offers archival
output and won't 'gum' up if I ignore it for a couple of months.) Output is
just fine ... in fact more than acceptable.
After several months decided to make some small cards in the printer using
4" x 6" tabbed stock with borderless output. (I would then crop the stock to
3 pieces 4" x 2".)
Reported to HP that the printer was not scalling correctly and I was loosing
edges on 3 sides. (1/8" top and bottom, 1/4" on the end, not a big deal ..
just a bloody nuisance!)
HP very helpful ... will send a rebuilt replacement. (Fast response)
Printer #2 showed same problem. HP very helpful .. will send a second
rebuilt replacement.
Printer #3 Dead on arrival. HP still very helpful .. will send a brand *new*
replacement. Thank you!
Printer #4 Still the same problem .. I guess I just give up.
I must say they really try and in general the printer output looks to me at
least as good as any of the competition but HP appears to not really be
geared (at least, with this product) to my graphic needs and expectations.
I have had similar experiences with HP over other products .. their service
is very responsive but unfortunately I have lost all confidence in their
products.
Shame!

I've just bought an HP 4180, not installed yet, and hope I'll not have
any trouble. Anyone know the page at HP.com where update disks are
available? Might there have been an Update that would have solved
your problem which they forgot to tell you about? Did you have to
phone? Do you still have the phone number? I forgot to look at the
date on your post. Anyone?

The installation disk for my outdated 1310 is damaged or worn out,
will not open, so nobody can use it and I keep getting a TrayApp
popup that won't turn off, don't think reinserting will turn it off.

I paid $11 for an Update disk once before, and I'm sure yet another
Update disk should be available although they don't sell that series
any more. I may even have seen one for about $27, that might work,
meant to try to ask them, but can't find the page again!

The 4180 is supposed to allow me to control the percent it enlarges
copies, so I'm not too disappointed about having to buy a new one.

http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/support.html?pageDisplay=drivers is a
link to driver downloads (and disk ordering for products with that option).
For the Photosmart C4180 the link is
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=228&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=1141647&lang=en
for XP. The version there is 7.0.1, dated June 2006.

For the PSC 1310 series the drivers are 4.2.0, dated October 2004.
