Hello everybody,

I'm looking for a black and white photo printer.

According to the reviews, the HP Photosmart 7960 is the way to go.
However, that model isn't yet available here in Germany.

What is available, though, is the 7660. According to the specs, the main
differences versus the 7960 are (1) no preview panel (2) slower (3)
different chassis. None of these are important to me. The specs don't
say anything about print quality.

However, both printers use the same cartridges (Nos.57, 58, and 59). Can
I expect both models to have the same quality output?

Thanks

The 7960 holds three cartridges at once, while the 7660 only holds two. If you
are printing B&W photo's the #59 cartridge will be the primary ink used, so the
differences should be minimal. If you were printing color prints the eight ink
printing the 7960 can provide gives better prints than the six ink printing
from the 7660.

The 7660 has photoret4 capability while the 7960 has photoretPro capability.
I don't know if this affects b&w printing performance or not. I've read that
the Pro is marginly better for color.
